The Fullerton College Puente Program

The Puente Project (Spanish for “bridge”) is a national award-winning program that supports Latine/x and underrepresented students in reaching their academic, career and personal goals. With more than 30 years of rich history at Fullerton College, the Puente Program includes a learning community model where students take academic courses together, receive mentoring from professionals and benefit from individualized counseling services. This integrated approach empowers students to excel academically, achieve their degrees and successfully transfer to a four-year college.

Events

The Puente Program enriches students by building upon the strengths they already bring from their unique backgrounds and cultures, fostering academic success, personal growth, and a deepened sense of cultural pride and identity.

Once in the program, Puentistas have multiple opportunities to participate in a variety of on and off campus events and activities including university tours, cultural and educational events and activities, and opportunities to volunteer on campus.

Among the program’s highlights is the annual northern California experience, which gives students the chance to visit prestigious University of California (UC) campuses such as UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis and UC Berkeley, providing valuable exposure to academic environments.

Puente Familia

The Puente Program provides students with a supportive familia and community of peers and faculty who have similar life experiences. Students have the opportunity to meet each other and start building a sense of belonging before the school year begins at the Puente Kickoff held in August.

Puente Northern California Field Trip

In preparation for transfer, the Puente Program provides students with a free multiple day experience to Northern California, chaperoned by the Puente Counselors and English Professors. Students have the opportunity to visit CSU and UC campuses in the San Francisco/Berkeley area.

Visit to UC Davis

As part of the Northern California Field Trip, students have the opportunity to visit UC Davis and learn about the programs and resources the campus has to offer.

Puente at Berkeley

The Puente Program is a statewide program that is housed at the UC Berkeley campus. Puente at Berkeley is a student-led club at UC Berkeley built up of Puente Transfer Students. During the NorCal Field Trip, students get to meet and learn from Puente at Berkeley students.

Visit to the State Capital

As part of the Northern California University trip, during which Puente students visited various UC campuses over the span of 4 days, their journey also included a captivating visit to the State Capitol, arranged by one of our dedicated Puente Mentors.

Transfer Motivational Conference

A one-day student conference which brings together all first-semester Puentistas throughout Southern California for a day of community building, dynamic workshops, and campus tour, with a goal of motivating academic success and university transfer.
